How a Syndicate Works
The oldest trick in the lottery book — and it still makes sense
The idea couldn't be simpler: everyone chips in, the syndicate buys more lines than any one of you would buy alone, and whatever you win gets shared between everyone who paid in for that draw. Ten workmates putting in £2.50 each play ten lines instead of one — ten times the chances of winning something, for the same money out of your pocket.
That's the whole deal. You're trading a slice of any win for a much better chance of there being a win at all. It's why syndicates account for around a fifth of the top prizes in UK games — and why the Tuesday-morning "did anyone check the numbers?" ritual is a fixture of British office life.
The honest bit
A syndicate doesn't change the underlying odds of EuroMillions — the jackpot is still a 1-in-139,838,160 shot per line. What it changes is how many shots you take, and what share you keep if one lands. Ten lines between ten people means ten times the chances and a tenth of the prize. Most people who play in syndicates reckon a tenth of a jackpot would still sort them out nicely — but go in with your eyes open, and never put in more than you'd happily spend on a night out.

Pick Your People
Anywhere from 2 to 20-odd members works. Everyone must be 18 or over. Keep it to people you can actually get money from every week — that matters more than you'd think.
Appoint a Manager
One person collects the money, buys the entries, checks the results and shares any winnings. Pick someone organised — they're the one holding the ticket that could be worth millions.
Agree the Stake & Deadline
Set the amount per member per draw and a hard payment deadline. The golden rule: not paid by the deadline = not in that draw. No IOUs. This one rule prevents almost every syndicate falling-out in history.

The things every syndicate argues about — settled
A group of people each chip in a set amount, the syndicate buys more lines than any one member could sensibly buy alone, and any winnings are shared between everyone who paid for that draw. More lines means more chances of winning something — in exchange for splitting whatever you win.
It's not legally required, but it's strongly recommended — and not just to stop arguments. UK lottery winnings are tax-free, but if a syndicate manager hands out shares of a big win without a written agreement made before the draw, HMRC can treat those payments as gifts from the manager, with possible inheritance tax consequences down the line.
