SuperEnalotto is Italy's national lottery — one of Europe's most popular and storied lottery games. Originally launched in the 1950s as EnaLotto, the game was relaunched in its current improved format in 1997 by Italian lottery organiser SISAL. Draws take place three times a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8pm CET — with results announced on SISAL TV.
Players choose 6 numbers from 1 to 90. Six main numbers and one Jolly number are drawn. The Jolly number's sole purpose is to determine the second prize — players who match 5 main numbers plus the Jolly number win a significantly larger second prize than a standard 5-number match. In the original format, the numbers came from seven Italian regional lotto draws run by Lottomatica. Since 2009 all seven numbers are drawn independently in a single draw.
SuperEnalotto has no jackpot cap — it rolls over until won, which is how it produced a €209.1 million jackpot in 2019 — the largest single lottery prize ever paid in Europe. Italians spend over €27 billion playing the game annually. Players outside Italy can participate via a licensed concierge service.
